media
Refers
to the content available on demand through the internent accessible in any
digital device. The new media contains interactive user feedback and creative
participation. Before the emergence of the new media there was the use of traditional
media which was printing and broadcasting.
Later
there was an introduction of computer and internet whereby they connected the
traditional media to work with their computer and that marked the beginning of
new media. The new media came into use through the media convergence whereby it
is the process by which traditional media is merged together with the new media
technologies pr Digitalization.
Digitalization
is the process that makes texts, sounds and images to be stored or converted
into numerical codes so that later can be translated into something that the
customers know or you know.
According
to Andrew Shapro (1990) the emergence of new media, digital technologies
signals a potential radical shifts of who is in control of information resources
and experiences.
The
new media has got its characteristics and they are as follows:
Digitality
it
is the process whereby information such as text, sounds images can be converted
or stored in numerical codes, or binary codes. These numerical codes allow
people to access information easier and faster. The binary codes as an output
form it can be seen as online sources, digital disks or memory drives. The out
put are to be decoded and received as screen displays. The new media through
digitality is in a constant state of flux. It is constantly flowing changing
and improving.
Interactivity
Through
new media a person can be able to create a good network or a better social
character because through new media is a two way kind of information. People
are no longer just on the receiving end, new media allows producers and
consumers to be involved. it is a powerful representation of users engagement
with the media text.
Comprehensibility
New
media can take many things together because of the convergence, which means
that traditional media merging together with the new of technology. This is the
amount or capacity that digital information takes up in any network that can be
reduced dramatically through compression and decompressed when needed,
Manupulable
The
information available in the new media can be changeable and adopted at all
stages of creation, storage, delivery and use. The New media has the capacity
to manipulate the reality. so as a corporate communication officer you should
be very carefully when you post something because viewers or customers may view
that thing in a way that you never intended it to be.
Networking
New
media can help the corporate officer to have a social capital or create a
better network with others. Or a better social character. This is the ability
of the new media to share different content or things through the internet. For
example it involve the consumption of media text and how we have a large number
of highly differentiated texts available in various ways
